Michael Quinn, Founder

Michael Quinn started Hahnemann Labs in 1985 and guided every element of production and business until his death in January 2009. Michael served as President and Chief Pharmacist for more than 20 years and leaves behind a legacy of great dedication and integrity in his field.

Homeopathy first impacted Michael's life in 1974. He began to study it intensively while a student at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and later practiced Homeopathy as a layman before attending Pharmacy school. After graduating from Oregon State University's College of Pharmacy in 1979, Michael worked for six years at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center as the Senior Pharmacist and, later, Supervisor of the Intravenous Admixture Service of the Department of Pharmacy.
Michael started Hahnemann Laboratories Inc. in 1985, beginning first as a retail pharmacy devoted exclusively to providing homeopathic medicines to the patients of some of the finest homeopaths in the world, at the Hahnemann Clinic in Berkeley, California.

After a year of dissatisfaction with the quality of the remedies available at that time, the doctors urged him to begin preparing his own medicines. Michael consulted with an engineer and together they produced a homeopathic remedy preparation machine which makes remedies in as close a manner as possible to the traditional method of making remedies by hand. (For photos of and more information about this machine see Methods of Preparation.) The Quinn Potentizer is Michael's literal legacy, as the driving arm of the machine was designed to replicate Michael's arm and also uses exactly the force Michael used when medicating by hand. As Michael often said, the Quinn Potentizer was able to replicate his medicating process but, unlike Michael, the machine doesn't get tired.

The doctors who used Michael's medicines found them remarkably effective and referred colleagues to Hahnemann Pharmacy. The demand for remedies from Hahnemann Pharmacy grew steadily and, in 1997, Michael opened our FDA-licensed Homeopathic pharmaceutical laboratory and, in addition to the pharmacy, became Hahnemann Labs. Michael was among the most loved and respected figures in modern homeopathy. A pharmacist by training, Michael grew a modest dispensing pharmacy into one of the largest and most highly reputed homeopathic pharmaceutical manufacturers in the country. His techniques and the processing machinery he invented are used and admired throughout the world.

Besides being an innovator of pharmacy procedures, Michael was a leader in the scientific study of homeopathy. He sponsored and designed three independent placebo controlled trials of homeopathic medicines demonstrating impressive statistical results in improving post-surgical healing. He also taught pharmacy at many homeopathic colleges and sat on the governing board of the North American Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia.
Michael was traveling on business in Hawaii when he suffered a severe stroke in January 2009. His death was a shock to family and colleagues, but his enduring spirit of quality and innovation lives on in the work of Alpine Pharmaceuticals and Hahnemann Labs. He leaves an indelible legacy of dedication and integrity in his field and in his life.
